"The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little."
The official teaser for Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been released by Marvel. However, fans who stayed through the end credits of Spider-Man: No Way Home were among the first to see it before the general public.
The trailer kicks off with Strange asking Wanda for her help with the multiverse, a concept Marvel has explored in a few shows and movies this past year. While cinematically, Marvel fans who watched No Way Home know Strange refers to the multiverse as "a concept about which we know frighteningly little" about, this is actually not the first time Strange has dealt with the multiverse in the MCU. If you watched the animated series What If?... on Disney+, you'd know there's a version of Strange out there that tried to tamper time and space until ultimately he lost everything (go watch it).
In the teaser, we see another version of Strange make an appearance. Could this be the version of Strange from What If?...or is Marvel trying to throw us off as they've done before in their trailers?
Based on what we have so far, it seems Wanda, aka the Scarlet Witch, may just be Dr. Strange's ally. But we know, based on the post-credit scene from WandaVision, that Wanda heard her kid's voices somewhere out there in the multiverse. Will she stay an ally to Strange, or will she have a change of heart if she sees a chance to get her family back?
We've known for some time now that there's a strong possibility Wanda decides to toe the line of a villain. I personally don't think the trailer gives us a clear picture of the film's plot for that very reason and knowing Marvel, that's on purpose.
