DC Comics Latino Superhero Coming to the Big Screen

"Blue Beetle, coming 'atcha."

DC and Warner Bros. are set to bring "Blue Beetle" to the big screen as they've tapped "Charm City Kings" director Angel Manuel Soto to direct and Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer to write the screenplay.

Why is this a big deal? Because while three different superheroes have held the mantle of Blue Beetle in the comics, this film will focus on Jaime Reyes, making it the first Latino superhero movie for D.C. According to the Wrap, filming is set to begin later this year.

“It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC,” said Soto in a statement to TheWrap. “I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together.”
